Four Children Drown in Farm Pond Near Naganur Village in Yadgir

Four children drowned in a farm pond near Naganur village in Surpur taluk, resulting in a major tragedy for the local community.

According to reports, the children had gone to the agricultural pond during a hot day. The pond was located approximately three to four kilometres from Naganur village on agricultural land.

The children were identified as Basamma Basavaraj Kadamageri, aged eight; Sharath Rajappa Kadamageri, aged six; Hanumesh Rajappa Kadamageri, aged eight; and Kiran Mallikarjuna Ambargonda, aged six.

The children reportedly entered the pond to swim and cool themselves. However, they were unable to cope with the depth of the water and drowned.

Villagers rushed to the location after learning about the incident and attempted to rescue the children, but the children could not be saved.

The incident caused widespread grief in the village and surrounding areas.

Calls for Safety Measures

The tragedy has raised concerns about the safety of farm ponds, which are common in agricultural areas but can pose serious risks to children when they are left unfenced or without warning signs.

Residents have called for safety measures such as fencing, warning boards and restricted access around deep agricultural ponds.

Farm ponds are important for irrigation and water storage, but their presence also creates a responsibility for landowners and communities to prevent accidental entry, particularly by children.

Parents and community members have also been urged to ensure that children do not enter unknown water bodies without adult supervision.

A Reminder About Rural Water Safety

The incident highlights the need for greater awareness about the dangers associated with agricultural ponds, open wells and irrigation structures.

Simple preventive measures such as fencing and warning signs can potentially reduce the risk of similar accidents.

The Naganur tragedy remains a painful reminder that water bodies located close to villages and farms can become dangerous when their depth and conditions are not understood.
